Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture is a regulated profession in the State of Florida.  Licensed and Board Certified practitioners are required to complete 4 years of rigorous training at State accredited Chinese Medicine colleges.

Chinese Medicine curriculum in the United States is modeled after the education programs in mainland China. In other words, a Florida licensed Acupuncture physician is not only well trained in acupuncture, but also receives training in herbal medicine, body work and is qualified to diagnose disease according to Chinese Medicine paradigm.

Besides education in Chinese Medicine, acupuncture physicians receive intensive training in various branches of Western sciences as required by State Law including traumatology, histiology, anatomy and human physiology, nutrition, physical examination, imaging data interpretation and much more.

Styles of Acupuncture

In the last 50 years Chinese medicine has become a global form of medicine and, as all medicine should, it has acclimated to various cultures and philosophical constructs. Every nation and culture has provided fertile ground for new styles and approaches to the practice of Chinese medicine, in particular to the practice of acupuncture and bodywork. Today, we can name Japanese acupuncture, Korean acupuncture, French acupuncture, Vietnamese acupuncture and in the last 25 years American acupuncture (while we’re at it, let’s include Medical acupuncture, Sham acupuncture and Dry needle technique).

All of the above styles and future styles not yet evolved have merit and work effectively. Why?

The reason, and this is just this writer’s opinion, is that the magic is not on the technique employed. Instead, it lies on the wisdom of the human body which is the same regardless of nationality or belief system. And it is due to this innate tendency of the body to gravitate towards a state of health, that acupuncture has survived the test of time and continues to baffle the minds of skeptics and scientist alike. If you don’t believe me, I invite you to come and try it out for yourself..
